The Belarusian Party "The Greens" (Biełaruskaja Partyja "Zialonye") is an ecological political party in Belarus which opposes the authoritarian regime of President Alexander Lukashenka... The Party was established in 1994 in Homel (a city near Chernobyl). The Party claims to support creation of a healthy environment for the person because social and environmental conditions create a maximum of conditions for person's development. Before coup d`etat in 1996 Greens were the biggest faction in Homel regional parliament. In 1996 Lukashenka changed the Election Code and political fortunes for the Greens declined. The Greens is a member of united democrat coalition (ADS). In 2006 the Congress of ADS has supported Greens` proposition to nominate Alexander Milinkevich as united democrat candidate for presidential election. BPZ has more than 1000 members. The Party is co-founder of national civil movement against nuclear station` construction.
